We are U.S citizens and want to travel in a rv all over Europe for 1 year. reading posts from different forums it looks like we may not be able to do this. I've read blogs of other Americans that have campervanned for a year in Europe and didn't come across this Schegen agreement. I also called the U.S. Embassy in the U.S. and they told me that we can get a 2 year travel document. Will this let us stay in the Schegan countries for more than 90 days. We would not be in any one country for more than one month at a time.

You got two options:

1) Switching, ie: 90 days inside Schengen, 91 days outside, 90 days inside, ...

2) Picking one country as a base and getting a residency permit in this country.

I also called the U.S. Embassy in the U.S. and they told me that we can get a 2 year travel document.

I don't know what that document is supposed to be, hazarding a guess I think it might be a residency permit.

We would not be in any one country for more than one month at a time.

This makes it extremely difficult for you to get a residency permit. Consider changing your plans.

I don't understand who you called. There is no "U.S. embassy in the U.S.". The U.S. has embassies in other countries, not in the USA. This is true of all countries - no embassy in the home country.

You should probably contact some of the embassies for countries in Europe that you're planning to visit. Embassies are only in Washington DC (in the USA) but many countries also have consulates in various major cities, and a consulate should also be able to help you out with your questions.
