can anyone give me tips to surive british immigration control?
I don't need a visa to visit but I've heard it can be a nightmare.
Does it matter which place you enter at? like is it worse at heathrow etc etc

If you

  • don't need a visa and
  • travel with a valid passport and
  • have no intention to violate the terms of the visa waivor programme,

I don't see any reason for concern. They're tough, but no tougher than elsewhere in Europe.

British immigartion? They may ask you some stupid questions but simply keep your cool, and answer their questions truthfully and you'll be on your way.

I dont know where you are from but all UK Immigration Officers do is follow the rule book as close as is possible. If you are not breaking any laws or rules then you will be fine. You will be delayed much longer picking up your baggage from the carousel if you are arriving at LHR Terminal 5 which is a true to life living disaster. The biggest mistake you can make is lying to an Immigration Officer. He/She swipes your passport and has all the details on the screen. If you are asked a question dont think of fibbing. Two minutes later you will basking in the Heathrow clouds and rain deciding which credit card to start stuffing for your fare into Central London and beyond.

Some days immigration seem to ask everyone loads of questions, other days not so many. I've seen it go both quickly and slowly at Heathrow before.

It's not necessarily that expensive to get to central London from Heathrow - get an oyster card, and it could be £2.20 off-peak or £3.80 otherwise.
