Hi people

i was planning a road trip to pakistan in my own car, i am told that you need a Passage De Carnet licence which is £15000......they said they charge 5 times the value of the vehicle and its RAC who issue that.......How ever you dont necessaryly need that but then you have to pay Custom Fee in Pakistan.....

Can anybody clerify to me how much custom do they charge on the overland trip....
it surely cant be or shuldnt be much, i could be wrong......

thank you waiting for you replys....

The £15000 will only be lost if you just leave the car in Pakistan - in other words 'import' it - which I suspect is what you want to do as cheaply as possible.

There are waivers to the fee if it was written off in an accident, stolen, irretrievably broken down, but I believe you'll need a police report. And another thing to bear in mind is, your passport may well be 'connected' to the car and might cause you problems leaving the country - again, the police report.

There'll be one or two others here who will know exactly what's required. I'm only passing on what I learnt from researching a different trip through Russia.

If you really just want to drive there for its own sake, perhaps get a cheaper car? Anyway, good luck.

As I wrote before, talk to the embassies. You'll not only need papers for Pakistan, but also for Iran and Turkey.

The Pakistani embassy in London has some detailed information on their website for people who are Pakistanis/of Pakistani origin and who are taking cars to Pakistan. Check that info out and if you are not Pakistani/of Pakistani origin give them a ring and ask about the procedure for non-Pakistanis.
