So as the subject says...hubby and I are flying United from Sydney (flying Qantas from Perth to Syd) to San Francisco and then from San Fran to Spokane. Does anyone have any advice for me or can they let me know what we are in for? We are sitting in seats 57 D&E on a 747-400 so we are 5 rows from the back of the plane in the middle but the two seats next to us are still empty(hubby's idea not mine) any pros and cons regarding our seating? The travel agent said I could drop in the afternoon before we fly out to check and see if anyone is seated next to us. We might be lucky and be able to stretch out a little bit, well as much as you can over two economy class seats anyway...lol.

Someone mentioned that the United planes don't have the individual screens in the back of the seats, instead they have the ones up on the wall of the plane is that right? Not that I really care as I don't think I will be all that interested in movies but I would like to know what we are up against here. What sort of in flight entertainment do they have does anyone know? Now I will ask the most important question...what is the food like? Any reviews on the different meals people have had on United by chance?

I also need to ask is anyone aware how much room we have for our carry on luggage? I am carrying a satchel bag sort of thing as well as my handbag and my husky jacket. Any suggestions as to what I should do with my husky jacket? I am bringing it on the plane as we are leaving Perth in winter weather and I can also us it as a blanket on the plane if I need to as well. Should I put that up in the luggage rack thing on the plane or just tuck it under my seat? I am nervous about putting it in the rack as it cost me $165 and I am worried about someone accidentally on purpose leaving with it at the end of the flight. Ok I am sure I have asked enough questions for now so I will leave people to ponder my paranoia regarding my husky jacket (it's a glorified raincoat that is waterproof and can keep me warm in temps down to -5 celcius for those who don't know).

Thanks in advance for any replies I might receive.

After mucking up my seat reservations, I was given a seat that had 2 empty seats next to it--which I fought for so my bulging belly had somewhere to roll once I got uncomfortable (which is about every 5 minutes). But, lo and behold, a last-minute booking took up the empty seats and I was in the middle of the middle seats. NOT terribly comfortable. All to say: there are no guarantees.

And I'd leave the jacket at home, especially if you value it so dearly. The weather in Spokane will warmish in September (as you mentioned in another post)--you'd simply need a light jacket and a few sweaters, I'd say.

Plus I've never had a good meal on an American flight. Last time, on Delta, they served BBQ pulled pork, nachos, salsa, yellow cheese, and crackers. I could have drank a bucket of water after that. Bring snacks!

Good Luck - you'll need it if flying the "Friendly Skies"! (I avoid UAL like the plague)
