Hi, I am planning to go to mexico for vacation in November along with my family. Can you please recommend where to stay and the prices etc. Thanks.

Don't go there, nothing worth seeing--Ha, Ha--just kidding. I'm still mad at the Mexican team since Mexico beat my USA soccer team earlier today (good game to watch, though).

Anyway, where to go depends upon whether you are coming from the west or east coast and whether you are looking for a resort or to see the "real" Mexico.

For resorts:

West coast of Mexico:
Puerto Vallarta
Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos

East coast of Mexico:
Cancun/Isla Mujeres
Playa del Carmen

The best of all of these is Cancun--worth the trip even from the west coast. It is also possible to visit the pyramids of Chichen Itza from Cancun or Playa del Carmen

For "real" Mexico
Mexico City
San Luis Potosi

Mexico City is my first choice, but the smog and altitude can be a bit much. If you do go, be sure to take a side trip to Cuenavaca (a beautiful city just south a short ways). Mexico City also has great pyramids nearby at Teotihuacan.

Oh, I forgot to mention. November is hurricane season in the Carribean--so I wouldn't go to Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Cozumel then.

I'd take my vacation in either Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco in November--much safer.

Thanks for your reply. We are planning around nov 19th, hopefully hurricane season should be done by then!
Like I mentioned I am going with my family, is it better if I buy a package which includes flight+hotel? Could you please suggest few names of resorts in cancun and few other cities. And also which web site should I check out for good deals to Mexico. Thanks!

I would say don't worry about the hurricane by Nov.

We stayed at the Bahia principe in the mayan riviera and we loved it, it was so close the the mayan ruins of Tulum where a collectivo for $2 will get you there . The beach there is beyond amazing. Paya del Carmen is 30 mins ride from the hotel were you can take the ferry to Cozemul and spend the day there. From Playa del Carmen you can take the collectivo to Cancun then a ferry to Isla muejers excellent for snorkeling .
If you are coming from Canada or US , many all inclusive deals are offered and Nov isn't busy month either and since the outbreak of the flu people aren't travelling much to Mexico, so the chance in finding decent deal is very possible
I would stay away from Cancun unless you like to party all the time.

If you decide to go to the mayan riviera feel me to ask any question you have.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the "Mayan Riviera" area as well. It's the area directly between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Having a hotel in this area works well if you want a quieter place that is still somewhat convenient to the other two spots.

Along with the place mentioned by yyzdxb, there are also the Barcelo hotels in this area:

If you plan to stay in Cancun, I recommend a place on the north-facing beaches. This would include the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach (my personal favorite), the Rio Palace, and the Presidente. There are also a couple of good hotels on the west edge of Las Mujeres island--directly across the bay from these hotels I just mentioned.

Thanks for all the replies. Like i mentioned before i will be travelling with my family along my kids, I like a quite place. Will it be better to stay at Mayan Riviera or Playa del Carmen? Can you also please suggest some good hotels in those places. I was looking at Spirit airlines, are there any other airlines which fly there from FL? Thanks.

I personally perfer the mayan riveira . majority of the hotels in that area are family friendly and have activities for kids of different ages.

The bahia principe I mentioned before they have stay at one , play at three. which means the kids are never bored. They have a lot of activities all day long for adults and kids. There is also a dolphin world and aqua park somewhere in the area(xe ha the name if I remember correctly).

The Barcelo chain is another great choice and depending on you budget the palace chain is another choice.

If you end up going to BP massage me as I prepare a check list for a friend who went last year I can forward to you.

I've always wanted to go to Mexico myself... How safe is it to go there now? Besides the pig flu, is the risk of getting robbed or something similar very little?
As I'm in San Diego with two of my friends in October, we've been thinking about crossing the border to Mexico - would you recommend that?
