Hey, a friend and I are planning to spend a few weeks in Thailand in Febuary, we would be coming from the east coast in Australia, we would like to stay in Koh Samui as recommended by a friend, is it easiest to fly into bangkok and then travel somehow down to the islands? or is the singapore route better? Is it fairly inexpensive to find our way to those islands? Thanks!
I'm on Koh Tao, which is north of Koh Samui. I took me at least 14 hours to get here from Bangkok. As I remember, I was told going to Koh Samui would take about the same number of hours from Bangkok. That was talking about by Train/Bus/Ferry!
I believe I saw some agency posted oneway air ticket between BKK and Koh Samui costs 3500THB. And I met another diver who actually did that flight!
If you need, I can refer the travel agent (in Bangkok) I used, and that lady seems to be very nice. I just don't have her email right now.
BKK Airways fly directly from BKK to Samui.
My wife and I did a Perth to Koh Samui via Singapore holiday in October 2003.
We flew to Singapore, got into the city for a couple of hours sight-seeing then back to Changi for the flight to Koh Samui.
On the way back we managed to get back into Singapore city for another couple of hours then back to Changi for flight home to Perth.
Going up to Bangkok then back down to Koh Samui is the long way round.
