Yeah, people generally toss ideas about until a critical mass is reached of people who could all make the same destination at the same time, and then a group coalesces around that. Or things fizzle out if no critical mass is reached anywhere. But we still remember that other people are up for a meet, too, and so if circumstances change, we can try again, and so a thread like this can never be a failure.
TPers are generally a wonderful bunch of people to spend time with, and since we're all travellers, there's a very good chance that we'll be in a position to meet up with each other at some point.

OOh--just saw this thread. We'll be in Belfast sometime around May for a good, long month if anyone's in town then. Heather, promise we'll definitely have time for a nice, leisurely coffee this time!

As you know, my job involves a lot of travel which of course in turn means meeting lote of people. I keep in touch with many of them by email and w/c messenger that I may never see again and the chances of even 1/2 a dozen of us having a get together is so hugely remote. If it works with Travellerspoint then I take my hat off to you all.

It definitely works. TP members, especially those who visit OT, tend to get to know each other as "friends" in the forums. When an idea for a meet-up is proposed, those who can make it usually do. The ones in Europe have the best attendance because travel between countries is easier.

We've been to 4 - 2 being larger groups - Montreal and Dublin. We had a smaller one in Ft. Lauderdale and then there was last year's birthday bash in Chicago. Not everyone who attended was a TP member but friends are always welcome too. We've met with one member because he lives in Madison and we were there for some event. We've also had 4 members stay with us in our home. Phil has visited 3 times. Almost made it to Tina's wedding in Montreal but a prior engagement (a conference) got in the way.

Hey! I thought you guys were seated in the parking lot, enjoying the calamari and truck exhaust???

Has it been 3 times... My mind must be going, it's all the shamanising;)

Oh, Tweety, let me know when you're up in Belfast or coming to Dublin, I shall be around. Let me know if you need a minder for the little nipper, I am getting a lot of experience at the moment with my friend's little girl.;)

A European meetup would be nice, I am losing touch with people.

Yup - September, 2005, December, 2006 and June 2007. Though technically, we met up with you in New Mexico for your June visit. (Must check in with some friends to see if that bottle of Connemara is still sitting in the back of the bookshelf. )

Rumor has it little Daisy loves Phil. Who knew he'd be such a chick magnet. ;)
