Hey Sam, Peter or moderators,

As a 'respected member', I'm not sure if I have this capability, and I haven't exactly been paying attention, so please forgive me for asking . . . But I was posting in a thread and I realised that I kind of put my foot in my mouth and I would like to edit my post. Can I/ how do I do this? I realise that this question must have been asked before, but I am sort of in a time crunch- someone is coming over for coffee- and I need to sort this out sooner rather than later. I tried figuring it out on my own, but I can't seem to. Could you please help? (Man, I hope you're up at this hour! )

Thanks for your help in advance!

Steph

Also, I would like to note that I don't see an 'edit' button anywhere on the page, and I am not the original poster. Is there a way to change my settings so that this is visable?

I believe the editing ability last just one hour from when you first 'submit' the post - after which, you're stuck with whatever it is you said.

Bit of a bummer really as I'm always putting my foot in it. ;)

It should be next to the 'quote' link.

Hey fabyomama,

Hmmm . . . . So I guess my time is out, seeing that I only have an hour . . . . Wish it could be longer.

It should be next to the 'quote' link.

Actually, I checked beside the quote link right after I posted it, and I swear nothing showed up- nothing has ever showed up there. Maybe there is something wrong?

Wierd . . . now it showed up! Seriously, I could swear it didn't show up before . . . Strange.

Yeah, an hour is right. The reason is that people can answer posts and being able to edit something after someone has responded specifically to that can just cause major confusion. Bear in mind, notifications have also gone out already to anyone subscribed and they won't get a new one for your edited version. If people are anything like me, many will not necessarily even see your post on the site - just in their email.

Suggestion after an hour would be to post a follow up entry clarifying or retracting your point. No harm in that.

Does the edit option disappear once there has been a reply, if the reply is within the 1 hour of course! If not, it may be an idea for it to do this.

Nah, it doesn't. There is indeed some logic in doing that. But it also just makes it harder to understand when it does and doesn't show :)

Thanks fabyomama and Peter for your replies. I think I've figured it out now. And I think that I must be blind!
