Is it important to have a sleeping bag in Peru, especially for Machu Pichu ? I had mine stolen in Valparaiso so was wondering if I really need to buy a new one.

Cheers

Temperature-wise, I'm not sure that you need one right now. But in terms of personal health, I'd definitely spend the extra buck; I carry a deep mistrust of hostel bedsheets and the like, especially in a heavily touristed place like Cusco.

or try a sleeping bag liner.... really small and very light weight.

If you plan to do the inca trail, you can hire a sleeping bag. We were in south america earlier this year, stayed in hostels and all were clean, including bed lined, this cannot be dumb luck, there were just too many hostels involved.
