Luang Prabang Help

Hello there!!!,

Warmth regards to all travelers out there. Could someone provide me opinion/advice on which best transporation method (must be cheap, reliable and safe) from :

a- Luang Prabang to Vientianne
b- Vientianne to Hanoi

Firstly, cheap travel is possible, secondly and thirdly, reliable travel and safe travel comes with no guarantee.
Luang Prabang - Ventianne your cheapest option is the bus. Personally, I intend to visit Laos in 2010 or 2011. I will be taking the VIP minibus. Cost a little extra but from my experience travelling around Thailand and Cambodia I have found them far more responsible behind the wheel.
Ventianne - Hanoi I have read there is a bus service but it is a long trip (to long for my liking). I would pay to fly this leg to save time and to save me from a gruelling bus ride. IMHO. Safe travels.

Bus is the cheapest and usually pretty safe. The Luang Prabang to Vientiane isn't bad length wise. Vientiane to Hanoi is quite another monster though, 24 hours with long waits at the border. As mentioned above it may be worth it for you to fly this leg. Safe travels.

Get it from Cheap hostel.... walk around Vientiene, its so small, you'll see all the hostels in 1 hour. No need to go directly to the bus station. The price difference is not significant... When I was in LP, I went to the station and then find out that my hostel had cheaper tickets.

There are sooooo many tourist in these countries, all you have to do is land there and hit a bar, ask any traveller and they know what to do... I didn't have to know a thing...

Its easy to get a bus in luang prabang to vientianne. It just takes a long time because of the terrain, but its a beautiful ride. I would brake it up with a few days in vang vieng for river tubing...unless the rains are bad. And dont get stuck watching friends for too many days.They play it continually at all the restaurants

I gathered a group of 6 other backpackers to share a minibus. Worked out $5 more than the bus and we took our time - beautiful.

before commenting you i would like to let you know, Laos being un touch thrid world country but living cost is higher than vietnam that leading to tours cost also higher too. from Luang Prabang fast and cheap is only taking airplane, by bus thake more than half day, the road is good but transportation is worse, from vientiane to Hanoi, it is such long journey, if you pass Cau Treo border you should rest in Thanh Hoa city, in there have very nice resort it call Van Chai resort, next day keep travel up to Hanoi via Tam Coc, Hoa Lu or when arrival Ninh Binh can turn right taking road No 10 to HaiPhong and Halong by befor geting to Hanoi
