Or if you have a little bit stashed away, you could go live in the philippines for a long time. My plan is to save 20 grand and retire there. 20 grand will get you a lot of time in the philippines (a house and 10 grand to spare) if your idea of heaven is a deserted beach and fresh fish to eat every day. As long as you dont mind living in a nipa hut of course.

Same in Egypt and Syria.

10k EUR will buy you a decent-sized house in Hurghada and with 100-250 EUR a month you'll be able to live as if you had 1000-1500 EUR a month in Ireland.

Although I suppose that a small island in the Phillippines will be much nicer than Hurghada, which is unarguably one of the ugliest cities in the world.

Are you working on anything at present?

If so then go somewhere for a while that will inspire you to finish that to the best of your ability, then see if it goes well.

If not then head somewhere that will inspire you to perhaps write about that place.

Start a blog, optimise it for the search engines (PM me if you want a few pointers, it's what I do) & blog regularly.

This'll keep you motivated to keep you writing, improve your writing at the same time & give you potentially huge exposure ... imagine if you blogger a piece of local news before anyone else & someone like BBC or Sky picked up on it ... you'd be viewed as the authority on the story......

Also, a blog / your own site is a good place to point potential customers to view samples of your work.

You're in an excellent position as you're not in the trad. 9-5 like many others out there, use it to it's full advantage & see the world ... you're never too old & I'm sure I speak for everyone on here when I say we support you!

I get the impression that everyone here also wants to 'Run Away'. Well, judging by the great advice I've received you've all certainly thought about it from time to time.

But seriously, thanks to everyone who threw their tuppence worth into the arena, it is really most appreciated.

I'll let you know in due course what I decide to do, that is presuming that I do actually run away...

thanks for everything guys, long live TP.

Zaksame

If you own your house, why not rent it out? Find a decent management company who can deal with everything while you're away for a small fee, and you will have a nice monthly income from that! Even if you're still paying a mortgage it can cover mortgage payments and once that is done the rent will be for your spends :) Better than trying to sell in the current climate anyway!
