Hi All, about to start planning my assault on the East Coast of Oz and could do with a bit of advice from those who have been there and done it!

We are staying in Sydney for 10 days- is this enough / too much? We want to stay centrally for 5 days and out by one of the beaches for the latter 5 days. What areas would you recommend for the latter 5 days? We are also on a budget (who isn’t?!), so any suggestions for doing things cheaper, free activities, etc. would be great to hear about! Or if there are any other good resources for finding this out?

We really fancy Byron Bay, but I think this is too far to go directly from Sydney. Where is worth a stop in-between- Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, any others? We are open-minded and don’t need to go to a ‘backpackers’ only kind of city. We will be using the Greyhound bus pass, so it would have to be a stop on their Sydney – Cairns route.

Any suggestions / stories would be great to hear about. It seems everyone has their own unique tale to tell after doing this route!

If anyone needs Melbourne tips, I can try and help you out. I’ve been calling it home for a while now.

Thanks all :)
