I arrive in Alice Springs in early October and I'm there for a week before I fly to Cairns. I want to do a tour of Uluru ideally over a few days. I would like to experience sun rise and sun set at Uluru. I have had a look at the tour that Intrepid run (Central Australia's Rock and Canyon) and this seems like quite good value (AUD$675 for 4 days).

Has anyone had experience of this or a similar trip? has anyone got any recommendations?

many thanks

i'm very interested in hearing experiences about uluru trips as well! i'm going to alice springs in the early october as well..

i found this greyhound adventures' 3 days rock tour, which includes kings canyon and the lost city etc. as well.. and it only costs AUD$320.

does anyone have any experiences of this trip, or greyhound adventures overall?

Hi Ellie,
I did a similar trip (3 days, 2 nights camping) about 2,5 years ago, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember the name of the company- but it was definately far less that that! Over 600 aussie dollars- that's a lot, especially if you're camping? Accommodation in Uluru is ridiculously expensive, so camping is usually how they do it. Maybe it's worth googling a few more companies & also if you get there much before, check out special offers- the tours might do a discount deal for something starting in a few days' time.

I also remember that there were quite a few companies offering tours to Uluru, continuing down to Adelaide. It might also be worth concidering, unless you already have a flight booked from Alice, as it might be a handy way of getting south.

There are plenty of tours you could book on, however the NT govt tourist board also have some excellent packages that include self drive and pretty good accommodation, I priced out one of their packages and could not do it for as cheap myself. Could be worth a look.

I did something similar to that, I think it was just called the Red Centre tour. 2 nights camping and got to cover the whole area, Uluru, Kings Canyon, sunrise and sunset. Very good tour. There are plenty to choose from though - shop around.
