Hi everyone,

First time posting a message here. Hoping to get some cool advice about travel. I am planning to go on a month long trip around southern Europe/Mediterranean and North Africa, hoping to visit Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Tenerife, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt...more or less these are preferred destinations.
Any ideas as to how to go about it, modes of transport, preferred locations, how long to stay at each place? Obviously, at this stage I'd appreciate general info until I have defined my dates, budget and travel buddies :)
Anyone who has done a similar tour or has experience in traveling in particular around North Africa?
I'd appreciate any feedback. Much thanks
Em

A month is not going to cut it. If you want to get a real feel for the countries I would say:

    Spain - 3-4 weeks
    Portugal - 2-3 weeks
France - 2-5 weeks, depending on what, where and how much of France
    Italy - 4 weeks
    Morocco - 4 weeks
    Tenerife - 1-2 weeks
    Tunisia - 2-3 weeks
    Egypt - 3-5 weeks

Transport in between:

Ferry: Spain-Morocco, Sicily-Tunisia
Flights: to Tenerife and to Egypt

Thanks T_Maia

I will take into account your suggestion and try to get more time for my travelling. However, what I had in mind is to visit one or two locations in each country before moving on to the next. I wouldn't really go around each country since I have been to most of the European once on previous occassions. I am just looking to visit one or two specific locations, something intereseting, convenient to get to and get connecting transport to continue to the next country/city and etc. But I do agree, a month won't cut it, Im afraid. Perhaps 6-7 weeks, one week per country/city. In Italy, I would like to visit Sicily and in France, the Provence and Corzica...thanks for your reply.

Sounds like a decent plan, but still a bit ambitious.

Maybe chop it up into parts, say Morocco, Spain, Portugal and France now in those 6-7 weeks and Sicily, Southern Italy and Tunisia later?

Egypt sort of deserves a visit on its own, if you want to combine it with another country or countries I would recommend the classic overland route Cairo to Istanbul.

Best route from Spain into Morocco is on the ferry via Algeciras (near Gibraltar) to Ceuta. Then Ceuta (Spain owned) to the Spain/Morocco border by taxi. Takes about an hour and very cheap. Once in Morocco its another short ride to Tangiers then onward. A stuningly beautiful country.

There are direct ferries as well from Algeciras, Gibraltar and Tarifa into Tangier, if you don't want to see Ceuta.

Yes there are but they are generally quite a bit more expensive and the wait at Tangiers Immigration can take hours. At Ceuta its straight off and on your way to the Morocco border.
