I have a trip booked to south Africa & Botswana. Because of various timetables ive got 2 days in Gaborone.
Trying to find something to do there (doing a safari elsewhere so not interested in that), but cant seem to find much of interest. Has anyone been there? Ill have my own transport so wont mind a drive away.
This page may give you some ideas.
I racked my brain trying to think of something to recommend- Gaborone is not a bad town, it functionable and relatively safe, but from a tourists' point of view, there's not much there...the market is nice, but it sells similar souviniers as all the markets in Southern Africa.
If you have a car, why not head towards the Kalahari? Also the Makgadikgadi salt pans are really interesting, and the way to visit them would be from Nata, about 600 kilometres north from Gaborone...it's a long drive and an overnight trip, but the road is (or at least was when I visited in 2007) in a good condition. It's pretty much straight driving. I know it's not in the south like you asked but if you are coming from the north/can drive up there, I think it's definately worth experiencing.
Thanks for the info,
I think the Kalahari may be a wee bit too far (its already a hectic itinery)
Really need to stick to the south.
