Seems to me we have a crazy world here, and I thought I'd start a list of ridiculous laws I've come across.

Today I ran across this one on the BBC news wire:
A Malaysian woman was caught drinking beer in public (Islamic Law) and sentenced to caning
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8217440.stm

California law prevents single men from making wine.

Oregon law says no smoking within 10 feet of a doorway/window.

The offices and theory class rooms of driving schools in Germany must have white walls. They cannot be any other color.

Sucks when you rent an office that has posh silk wallpaper in a tasteful mint green with golden woods and then need to take it all down.

You might care to look up on your search engine 'Crazy American Laws'.
There you will see a website on page 1 called freepublic.com. Have a look on it.
A couple of examples are.. In Denver Colorado its illegal to mistreat rats.
In Florida it is illegal for divorced, widowed or single women to do a parachute jump on a Sunday.
The mind boggles.
In Scotland there are no hard written rules on the laws of trespassing. However there are no public footpaths either !

There are thousands of stupid/silly laws still on the books in all 50 states. One was a man had to proceed a motorcar with a red flag to warn all horseback riders a motorcar was coming. Why is it still on the books, I don't know.

The difference between the example of beer drinking in Malaysia and stupid/silly laws in the US? Enforcement. These outdated, stupid laws are not enforced. If anyone tried, the court would throw it out. This happened in Texas years ago. There was a law against sodomy, even in your own home. Two men were caught 'in the act' while police raided the house in search of drugs. The court ruled gov't has no business dictating what consenting adults do in their own home. Old law overturned when authorities tried to enforce it. Very different than what occurred in Malaysia.

Islamic law can be very harsh. In Saudi Arabia they still stone people to death for adultry. Cut off your hand for theft. Might have made sense hundreds of years ago, not in the 21st century.

I heard that in some countries if people commit adultery they get stoned.
Yet in other countries people get stoned then commit adultery.

In my area, there are some laws that can be considered as really stupid or ridiculous. These laws should be remove. Some such laws are.

1. Dogs may not bark after 6pm.
2. No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.
3. It is unlawful to walk backwards after sunset.
4. It is considered an offense to shower naked.

you can also find more such laws from here.-snip-

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

In Australia it's illegal to wear hot pink pants after midday Sunday. Or so I'm told.

Does this apply to men, women or both? I can see the logic of this law. Anyone wearing hot pink pants after midnight is looking to get into TROUBLE!!

Not sure on that. The only reference to this "law" that I can find is on the internet, so who knows the details ;) You could try visiting in hot pink pants on a Sunday and make an acquaintance with our legal system ;)

It's after *midday* that the rule kicks in. Presumably at midnight it's allowed again..
