I'm sure my plans will change many times before I go. It's good to at least have a realistic goal. I'll keep playing the lottery! :P

$80 dollars a day is far short of what you need. Even if you are camping that still wont do it realistically. However it looks like camping is not on the agenda so I think you need to re-think your plans.
I travel to the USA about 4 times a year or thereabouts and when I am away from work I go off and do my own thing for a few days before coming home. There is only one of me so lets assume that is $40. My room for the night will be an absolute minimum of $30 and there is no breakfast with that. Breakfast the following morning will be some toast and coffee. That will cost me at least $6. During the day I will drink 2 bottles of water at around $1.50 each. That is my $40 gone. All that and assuming that I am walking everywhere because there is nothing left for any public tranport.
Sorry but you will need a lot more than $80 for two of you per day.

That isn't enough for two people. We are also planning to do the US at the end of our rtw trip (as long as we have enough money). We plan to hire a car at about $15 per person roughly. About $30 a day for a room each and $25 a day for food. Then fuel costs. Hopefully we will be able to pick people up for certain parts to save on fuel costs a bit.

I agree with Wonkerer. The lodging in major cities will be the biggest problem. Plus if you are looking outside of the city to stay for cheaper, then you will have to find further transportation back to the fun stuff!
