Travel Forums General Talk Spending Money

Hi!

Travelling at the end of the year, worrying about not having enough money =/ just wondering if anyone had any rough estimates about spending money (including accomodation) for Japan and America. I won't be buying much, just food and entrance fees when needed. I'm staying in Japan for 4 days and the states for 10 days.

Thanks for any help!

Kirsty

Japan is expensive, I looked at travelling there a few years ago and saw recommendations for daily budgets (cheap food, cheapest accomodation, some entry to sights) to be in the neighborhood of 120 USD per day.

US should be similar, I don't think you'll manage with less than 80 USD per day.

In both countries you can expect to pay a lot for accomodation. Over 40 USD per night for a cheap motel in the USA and close to 60 USD for a hostel bed in downtown Tokio.

Maybe you should use the TP accomodation link to check out prices for the cities you plan to visit?

Hello there. I have been to Japan both working and for leisure and there is an excellent hostel called Khaosan Tokyo Asakusa Annex. 4 nights there will cost you around €65. Thats about $(US)100. They have an excellent reception area where the staff speak good english and give advice on the cheapest places to eat and drink. Its possible to get by on a budget similar to the cheap areas of New York and as long as you dont go crazy in the restaurants, you can live cheaply. Its much like all capital cities when it comes to budgeting. If you are not careful the prices can send you into burn out. I was in Moscow last year and before I went I was told that the expense of the place is so madly out of control. Not so at all. I managed to find hot meat and bread at the railway stations, a beer and coffee for under €5.
