So im going to be in India end on Nov making my way up to delhi,Kashmir then back to Delhi and onto shanghai for chinese new yr. and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for Delhi to shanghai, prob cheapest is best,i'm not on a schedule at all got 3 months up my sleeve, also what should i be budgeting staying at hostels.
Any advice,info would be appreciated.
I have done a similar trip before.
We went to Nepal (not to be missed imo) and overlanded into Tibet taking the Friendship Highway to Lhasa. This is an amazing journey and although you have to do it with an organised tour to get your Alien Travel Permit for Tibet there are agenices in Nepal offering cheap deals on small buses rather than the four wheel drive that we took. Stay a few days in Lhasa it's a magical place although I found the Chinese oppression is in your face.
You then fly (very cheap) from Lhasa to Chengdu (another great stop) and catch the train to Shanghai. The whole trip will be extremely interesting and allow for other side trips en route, for example to Yunnan Province - Dali & Lijiang.
From China we headed south to Vietnam (organise visa well in advance) and then all the way down to Bali.
Cheers, more options..i think my head is going to explode, how long did it take you to get from Delhi up to Shanghai
