Hi there, I am currently going to be backpacking around South America with a friend for 6-8 weeks in about 2 weeks time and was wondering if anyone had any tips for our itineary? At the moment because of prior air flight and Inca arrangements we were thinkin of headin from Peru- Chile- Argentina- Bolivia- Peru (for the Inca Trail). We would like to see some of Brazil as well but were entirely unsure if this was realistic with the time that we have? Is Bolivia worth the visit either??
Any tips on routes and mode of transport would be gratefully accepted not to mention any ideas for must see attractions? Many thanks Dickie
Well, with 8 weeks you would seriously have enough time to travel to Chile, into Argentina and north again via Bolivia to peru. Also with 6 weeks it's not like really rushing it.
Brazil is far off the route though and it depends on which parts of Brazil you want to see wether or not you have enough time.
With 8 weeks you could go across northern Argentina to the Iguazu Falls and the pantanal and than cross into Bolivia and take the death train to Sant Cruz.
Some nice areas in the region, which are easily visited on a 6-8 week trip;
- Parc Nacional Lauca in northern Chile
- Surroundings of San pedro de Atacama.
- Southwest Bolivia: salar de Uyuni and the laguna's (lakes)
- The Tupiza area in Bolivia: Bolivia's wild west.
- Salta/Northwest Argentina
- Arequipa/El Misti/Colca Canyon.
- Sucre/Potosi in Bolivia
Just some first thoughts
And also you can do this if u go to Arequipa, then you can go to Puno where are u gonna be able to see the lake tititcaca and from that place you can travel to Bolivia.
