I fly into Brisbane on the 10th September and I pretty much need to find a job straight away as I'm looking to work for a year. I know what I would like to do (Bar Work) but really don't know where to settle down. I want to preferably be by the coast but am open to suggestions if any Cities are recommended. Can anyone suggest a good, vibrant, lively, fun, area, as im really STUCK. Many Thanks
I was thinking either Surfers or Airlie???
Many thanks for your time
Hi, when I was staying at Dunk Island there were lots of people on WHV working in the resort there, you could try applying for a position at a resort through Voyages. Otherwise there are plenty of vibrant towns up the coast, Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay, Brisbane to name a few.
I'm planning on settling in on the Gold Coast possibly Broadbeach, Miami, Surfers Paradise, or burleigh heads for about 3-4 months in early October. All those suburbs are either right by the nightlife/beaches or 5-10 minutes from it. I'm also planning on looking for barwork. Are you planning on settling in a particular city for the whole year or are you planning on moving city to city every few months?

Surfers Paradise is ok. tons of clubs and bars, it's defeintely a good time but it's small and the beaches are surprisingly not that nice...compared to other places on the east coast.
Airlie Beach is small...very small. It's basically one street with about 7 bars and a club and a mcdonalds. I had heaps of fun there. too much fun actually! but again it's small. and there is NO BEACH in airlie beach. Unless you land one of those jobs working on a boat or at one of the resorts on one of the islands you won't see much of the beach. If you have a lot of work experience in bars you might be able to find work there. Airlie is basically a place to drink and party...and it's the gateway to the whitsundays of course! Oh yeah Airlie beach is about a 17 hour drive north of Brisbane...so take that into account.
Brissy is nice to be sure, and if I try to move to OZ it will be there...but it's not nearly as fun as sydney and the beaches are a little out of the way. I'd say spend some time there and see if you would like to stay.
I would say fly down or bus down to sydney, there are tons of opportunities, the night life is incredible, there are tons of great beaches, the public transit is phenomenal.
or maybe work on a farm in the outback...I did that for a month, I'll never do it again, but it chagned my life for sure plus it's a great way to save money because there is no where to spend it. Maybe find a job Picking fruit, you might be in the middle of no where, camping out half the time, but you'll make heaps of friends.
