50/50 beach and cultural exploration
My girlfriend and I have two weeks leave in October. We are looking for a beach resort anywhere in Asia. The plan is to spend the morning sightseeing, visiting historical sites, and spending the afternoon /evening on the beach. We don't want to be simply marooned on a beach all day.

Can anyone recommend such a beach resort which lies within striking distance of 2 weeks worth of cultural exploration?

You do realise that Asia is the biggest continent in the world and that most countries have thousands of beaches on them dont you??? Perhaps you need to be a bit more specific.

Hoi An, Vietnam has everything in one nice neat little package (excellent food, hotels, tropical beach, historical sites and shopping) and it's a bargain. The only problem is that, like Bali, the place is overrun with tourists most of the time. Fly into Danang Airport (Central Vietnam) - the place does flood often in October.

well in the Philippines, you can choose Subic which has some good beach resorts like White Rock, and has other other nature activities like Zoobic Safari, Ocean Adventure, and the Jungle Survival tour..

Or, you can visit Cebu and book in one of its best resorts on the island of Mactan... Cebu is rich in history specially as it is the oldest city in the country that dates more than 400 years already..

Or, you can go north in Pagudpod which is considered as the Boracay of the north for its beautiful white sand beaches... and you can get tours to go to the preserved Hispanic street in Vigan and visit Paoay Church, a UNESCO site and other sites within Ilocos.

Or, you may also go to Dapitan in Zamboanga peninsula.. there are good beach resorts there also and Zamboanga is rich in culture and history with the mixture of Hispanic and Islamic cultures combined.

And you may check the island of Camiguin which is quite hard to visit but has one of the most beautiful beaches... they also feature an underwater cemetery there and their mangoes are the best.

Phan Thiet-Mui Ne resort in Binh Thuan province in Vietnam is a great place for your inquiry. Recently, Mui Ne beach resort has been admitted is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Welcome

Let me add Palawan to the list. Coron Island is a must-visit. I've also been to Puerto Princesa, good scenery. But otherwise, it's really not developed yet. Fly Cebu Pacific, just visit cebupacificair.com.. -snip- If you catch their promo, some flights costs only $6!
