jasonh2015 has indicated that this thread is about New Zealand

Right I know someone on this forum goes on and on about this place. And I really would like to know how to get their. I looked at all the bus routes, and come up with nothing.

I'm off to New Zealand next year, and was going to start in Auckland, but now im thinking I would like to relax for about a week, before the rest of my trip, im planning on being in NZ for about 2 years, And Lake Tekapo seems like the ideal place to start.

It looks so good in the photos ive seen, and the fact the hostel is right on the lake is just perfect.

Hi Jason,
it really is pretty, and is easy to get to as well. If you get yourself to Christchurch you can catch a bus (Intercity or nakedbus are the bus companies- google them). Probably around 4 hours away and it's a beautiful trip across the Canterbury plains past the southern alps.
Enjoy your trip

Thanks for your help, naked bus sounds pretty cool, and cheap. I was going to do an intercity 35 hour ticket, and that was $375NZD. Now i just need to work out which would be better. The 35 hour is good, but when I go away I like to change my mind at the last minute, and that would cost me hours!

If anyone has any further advise please leave a message, Thanks Again :)

That'd be me.

It's halfway on the route from Christchurch to Queenstown (the stop before/after Mt. Cook), so as goglobalnz said, you can take intercity or nakedbus from Christchurch, or from Queenstown.

It really is the ideal place for relaxing. :) A week might be a bit too long (I mean, I've spent that and longer there without being bored, but I'm generally hesitant about recommending other people to spend more than 3-4 days there, as there really is very little to do other than hiking and seeing the light change :)), but you might see about heading to Mt. Cook for a day or two as well.

If that 35 hours ticket is a flexipass, then the hours are good for an entire year. Since you'll be in the country for two years (*jealous*), you can just use it only for those bus journeys you're certain you'll take, and look for one-off alternatives when you're not certain. (In general, it's a good idea to drop by the visitor centers to see if there's any last minute super-saver fares available anyway, as those will always be cheaper than any pass savings.)

Cool, thanks for the info. It was a flexipass i was looking at. But I have a habit of changing my mind at the last minute. So I think i'll hold off on it, and just use the naked bus to get their, then plan my next move with the flexipass.

Thanks again!
