I've looked at Hoi an beach but all I can find are expensive resorts. In Thailand we paid $20 a night for a hut with 2 beds, a bathroom and a little porch - right on the ocean. As I mentioned, we had elec from 6pm to midnight. It was ideal. I've heard Vietnam is less expensive than Thailand so I'm hoping we can either beat or match it for a beach accomodation.
Am I looking in the wrong places in Hoi an beach? Can anyone suggest a specific "hotel" there?

I never stayed on the beach in Hoi an i just went there to relax in the sun .
Cat Ba island has huts for maybe $15 - $20 a night . You seem to pay more for a basic hut on a beach than what you would for a very clean room with aircon 200 meters inland , just because its on the beach .

Maybe check it out, you can get the boat from hoi an easy, prob less touristy also .

Nha Trang is a good place to visit with family. Restaurants, waterfalls, beach, diving, beach club, parties....

I Have had some short vacations in Vietnam. I liked Lang Co beach most because of its white and crystal water. Also planing other trip which covering all the best of Vietnam. I got some nice documents relating to Phu Quoc beach and Ha Tien beach in the south. It is said that natural and beautiful. I will include them in my next trip. Why don't you find out these destinations?

Hoi An has every level of accommodation. I like the $15. rooms in the center of town. (Nhi Trung or Dai Long Hotels) Everyone rents bikes here and just pedals on out to the beach - very easy since it's totally flat. Remember that you're coming in high season and this means the better places will fill up and your plans for just showing up could cause you some delays. Hoi An is really a must see - a one of a kind place that not only has excellent beach, but also excellent shopping and some of the best food in the entire country. Phu Quoc, on the other hand, is pretty isolated, and I believe the facilities will be a bit rustic to say the least. Why not try both?

I stayed at Le Loi in downtown Hoi An. Under $10/nite fan room. Just your basic room. I did a quick check of the TP 'accommodation' option, left panel for Hoi An. I liked the look of Phuong Nam Hotel, quoted me $20/nite. Has a pool and is much nicer than my $10 room.

Hi, all
There are some of beaches where you should not skip in Vietnam. It's Halong bay - one of the most famous destinations, you can choose sleeping on the boat in Ha Long bay. very great, you can swiming when the boat float on the water also.
Nha Trang beach, Cua Dai (located in Hoi An old town) are also a good choice. When you come to Danang, should see My Khe beach, very pleasant. Mui Ne and Vung Tau are both beautiful. It's right, in Vietnam have many level of hotel so do not worry.
Vietnam is a country have many many wild place that you can see. Come and enjoy
If have any question, pm for me please
