Next year(2004) I've gotton the unique abliity to go to anywhere on earth Continental airlines flys. Anytime.
I'm looking for suggestions as to how to maximize my privlage and possible earn some money too. &, of course enjoy myself.
Any thought you'all have would be very helpfull,
WOW!! You must be the luckiest person alive Did you win a competition or are you owed some serious favours by airline execs?
Well, all I can say is make sure you spend as much of the year travelling as possible. Unfortunately of course, a lot of the cost goes into the expenses you incur while on the road (hotels, food, etc.), but your plane tickets are definitely a very big part, so you are a long way on the way to having a fantastic year.
Places you mustn't miss (that I've been to at least):
- Australia (sorry, I'm biased because I live here)
- France (well, you really can't miss Paris can you?)
- Not sure if Russia is a continental possibility but it is also an amazing place to visit.
Of course, there are a ton of other places too. To minimise living expenses though you may want to focus on some less affluent countries, for example some destinations in South America, Eastern Europe or Asia (Japan excluded). South America would be a particularly good choice as those airfares are normally very high and the cost of living is very low. I'm not sure where Continental flies though, so you may be somewhat limited.
Another consideration might be to plan your trips in down-season, so you save a little on accommodation.
Just some varied thoughts on the matter - make sure to let us know how you go.
I sure feel lucky, Actually I am The "primary"passenger for a 10 year employee thru a long and strange reason. I am considered the husband of an employee who's been with them for ten years. However I am not married, and am free to travel w/o any responsibilities... besides my pets.
I've been to Spain, Italy & France many times. I very much enjoy those places, however I've never been to your homeland.
Cairns is the only city in Aus. Continental flys to. What do you think about that? I am scuba diver &, of course, the great barrier reef interests me. Is there other, "do not miss", places to see when I make it there?
I just counted and there are 99 international(I live in the US) citys I can fly to & I'd love to see them all. even the ones I've allready been to. But, like I asked before, I'd also like to make money from it .. if possible.
I've been to many 3rd world countries & your right that money goes quite far in those places & you can still have a fantastic time.
I'm wondering if there is any ideas as to how to make a buisness out of my privledge?
Thanks for the info,
That is a very good stroke of fortune you managed to stumble on. As far as actually making money off of it, it may be tricky I think. I do know that there are such people as couriers who basically do nothing but travel with goods that need a person accompanying them. It may be possible to contact one of those companies and say that you are already providing the ticket, so why don't they pay you something Just thinking aloud really.
Bummer that Continental doesn't go further than Cairns! I will actually be flying with Continental from Cairns in a couple of months, but I assumed they flew elsewhere as well. Australia really is a must see country though - Sydney, Melbourne are both fantastic cities and of course landmarks like Uluru, the Great Barrier reef and the Opera House are big drawcards. It's not really the way to go if you're on a budget though - particularly if you can't use your ticket throughout the country!
99 cities in a year sounds like a good challenge by the way !
