My apologies for upsetting you so much with my opinion SamSalmon. I can only speak as someone who visited the Coral Coast; a place that you describe as "to be avoided".

Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to actually live in Fiji like you did, so I can't say that I have kayaked the azure reefs, trekked the enchanting jungles to gorgeous waterfalls, nor fished the turbulent passes.

I wonder how many toursists actually do? Not many I'd say, as Fiji is predominately advertised as a resort destination for honeymooners and young families.

I'm sorry that you think I'm someone with a "monstrous inferiority complex and a huge chip on their shoulder". Perhaps you need to settle down, have some of your orgnaically grown veggies and fruit, washed down with that delicious Fijian water (which is so pure)!!!

Then you can sit back, relax, close your eyes and dream about being in wonderful Fiji rather than Canada!

Seems like the poor baby doesn't like Australians!

Hey lil j - we've gotta convince you to actually leave the UK before you even consider going to Fiji. So how are your plans coming along?

Just came in this morning to read the posts in this thread... "woah boys" is right! Like anywhere, I suppose, Fiji is a great destination for some, and a dull one for others. All depends on your point of view!

But, yes, let's get Lil out of the UK and on a plane to... hmm... such a tough choice! But so exciting just to know you're going somewhere!

Hey lil, i'm a kiwi, and I haven't yet been to Fiji as I am in the UK at the moment enjoying myself! If you do go to Fiji, but you're flying there from Oz, try using a no-frills airline called freedom air. Their website is www.freedomair.com and i think their prices aren't too bad - especially if holidaying on the British pound!!! ;) I think there's another no-frills airline called virgin blue, but I don't know if they do flights to Fiji.

Hope you get a chance to visit New Zealand while you're in that part of the world - so many people go to Oz and forget NZ is a beautiful country too ('Lord of the Rings'#1,2 & 3 and 'The Last Samaurai' were both filmed in the countryside). And yes we have hot weather, especially in the north (Coromandel - white sand beaches) and gorgeous natural parks (Fiordland/Southland areas - snow peaks contrasting with lush, green native bush and clear lakes).

Whatever you decide to do, have a great time!!! Good luck with your planning...

Yeah, keep it nice guys :) Opinions and experiences differ. Posts have been edited (as per forum rules) to try and calm this thread down and bring it back on track. I only went to Fiji once when I was 7 or so and don't remember much. The people there are reputedly the friendliest on the planet though and I'd absolutely love to go back sometime.
