My partner and I are thinking about heading over to NZ and checking out the South Island. We are thinking about staying for around two weeks are looking at travelling by hire car for most of our time there. My partner and I are interested in hiking, but we really like variety in our travel, in the things we do, the places we visit, the things we see, the places we stay and how we travel.
We would like to check out the Fox Glacier or another one of the glaciers, maybe do something crazy in Queenstown, go on a nice train ride and check out Milford Sound.
Any suggestions on where to go and what should not be missed or any suggested itineraries would be highly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your help!
Hey, I am doing NZ for 5 weeks in december to January. When we get to the south island we are doing abel tasman National Park, as we will be doing kayaking, then we head along the coast round and drive through Arthurs Pass, as everyone says you have to go there, so we will drive down there and back again so we end up back on the coast round, we will then go the Franz Joesf & the Fox glaciers to do a bit of glacier walking, then head through haast, then ebd up at milford sounds for a little while to do kayaking there too. Then last of all go up to mount cook to see the amazing views, maybe do a helecopter ride as it will be my partners birthday by then, then back to christchurch to fly out back to Auckland and then home. Well that is our route and on the coast road you can see lots of things. Hope you have a good time.
Thanks for your reply charl89. Sounds like you have a great trip ahead of you. Thanks for mentioning Abel Tasman National Park and driving through Arthurs Pass. They sounds great. Will be adding them to our itinerary for sure. Hope you guys have a great time too!!!
