Quoting mat p
thinking of heading out end of feb and hittinh ozintro, anybody heard any feed back about that place yet? web site looks good. mat
The general impression about oz intro amongst many of the regular members here on travellerspoint is that they're asking a whole lot of money for lots of things which you can do yourself for free. I remember a few people who started out with oz intro and then did the rest of the year on their own, reporting back here that they wouldn't do it again and could've spent that money in much better ways. (But of course we've had so many oz intro threads here that I can't refind that specific thread anymore.)
However, it also seems to be true that oz intro does employ people who're generally very helpful, and you'll likely have a pretty good time with them.
Maybe you feel that you'll really benefit from the handholding, and that's perfectly okay. But speaking as someone who just figured things out on his own without any trouble (on my first major trip on my own), I'd recommend taking a good long second look at what they offer, how hard it'd really be to do those things yourself, and if that's really worth that much money. There's literally tens of thousands of backpackers arriving in Sydney each year, and so at any given moment it's really easy to meet up with other people who're in the same boat as you are, at any random hostel. As for the other services such as getting a tax file number, bank account, etc: those really are trivial to do yourself for free (and people here on this forum are always happy to help you with instructions for them, too). So then that leaves the activities like surf lessons, bbq, etc. Do you really want to be paying for those?
Meeting several backpackers are somewhere very interesting to have as you will find a good company and also an affordable accomodation to live.
I am actually planning to go to melbourne and lets hope for the best, whether I got good companions there and the trip will bw fine.
fair point and i totally agree with all of it, its just a sceary thought going all that way on your own and just to have that help at the start sounds like a real good idea as im not the most confident person out there, but thanks any way
I went thru STA travel which is student travel australia, they sorted everything for me. I would say u'd b better goin thru student agencies as they can help you big time gettin discounts and better deals. They also can help you set up bank accounts and your tax file no. before you fly out. I'd say you should sort your flights soon so that it'll give you something to look forward to when your working your socks off like myself trying to save money!!lol
