Planning on doing Frazer or Whitsundays avoid Wicked travel

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Planning on doing Frazer or Whitsundays avoid Wicked travel

I booked all my trips with them in May, spent around £400 in total. When I called up to confirm a dive that I had booked with them for $110. The company said the boat is in for a refurbishment and wouldnt be ready so my dive had to be cancelled. It was at the end of the trip so I coulnt change the date. I called Wickeed to arrange a refund and they siad because my package was discounted I could only be refunded $80. I couldnt see the logic in this I got a discount meaning the dive was worth more so if anything I should be refunded more.

Anyway despite sending through a number of different payment methods from banks to paypal and numerous emails they never refunded me and now ignore my mail.

Also the boat I was booked on was nothing like what I had requested, we were put on an old boat with bedbugs.

On a lighter note I travelled Sydney to Cairns over a month and know tons of great hostels and things to do along the coast so feel free to ask for any hints and tips.

I should also mention that I had spoken to people on the tours who had been given the same excuse with different boats. I booked the tour on the main strip in Byron Bay but I think Wicked is a chain.

I'm heading to sydney on wednesday, no real concrete plans for heading up the east coast so any recommendations would be helpful

In Sydney I stayed at YHA hostels, they were ok as far as YHA's go, quite a cool crowd. They arrange really cheap food like pizza nights all you can eat for $5. I stayed at the central one for a couple of nights because its easy to get to from the airport. I also stayed at the one in Byron which hires out surfboards for free which is a nice little addittion. Or it should be, I ended up in hospital all day getting x-rayed for a broken neck and back.

A friend of mine stayed at the Wake-up hostel and said this was the place to find girls. He got lucky on more than one occasion.

Travelling up the coast I'd use my lonely planet and recommendations from friends on deciding where to stay. Only having a month to do the whole coast I skipped most of NSW (partly due to the fact that I couldnt suf anymore because I had whiplash) . I went straight to Byron, I ended up spending 4 or 5 days there cos I thought it was a pretty cool place, would be even better in peak season. Cheeky Monkeys is the place to go at night in Byron if you're young and single. Its a good laugh for anybody though.

I'd definately recommend Greyhound as your means of travel. Its cheap and readily available.

With the tours and stuff Its worth paying more for the top boats. A good idea which was given to us as we pulle dup in Airlie by a helpful bus driver was to go and ask locals about chartering their boat or whether they will take you out to see the Whitsundays. Most of the boats advertised in these tours have bed bugs, its a fact. So pay more and try and get a brand new boat.

If your planning on diving in Cairns then I'd highly recommend the Quicksilver company, me and a mate paid $155 for the silver sonic boat which takes you out to the outer reef (we went to agincourt reef). The service on the boat is great, the boat itself is very impressive, the food is superb and most importantly the three dives I did that day were better than the 12 dives I had under my belt previously.

I would second the avoidance of Wicked Travel.

They tell you that you can pay off the trips as you go up the coast (perfect if you're working / getting money transferred into your account & haven't got the full amount immediately).

What they don't tell you is that once you pass Byron Bay they don't have any other branches, so you've got to go into a Westpac bank (of which there are few) to transfer the money. No one answers the phones .... oh & don't think you can pay via card over the phone ..... nope!

Wicked travel?? Crappy travel more like.
