I don't really know anything about Gibraltar other than it is near Spain and is part of the UK and so I am assuming that if you are on a UK student visa then I can travel there freely without applying for a tourist visa, unless anyone knows otherwise?

Also has anyone been there and is it worth visiting?

If you have a UK passport, you can travel freely through the European Union--including through Spain and into Gibraltar.

It's a small but lovely place. The grotto concert hall, the monkeys, the views--all very beautiful.

You really don't need visa with your passport.

Gibraltar is worth visiting... It's not so large, but something you have to see ;)

However the OP does not have a UK passport - they are in the UK on a student visa. Citizenship is not mentioned in the question.

This is a link to visas for Gibraltar - with the information provided in your post it's not possible to give you a definite answer. There are 2 points on that page which are useful, however it contains more information than just these two - these are:

As a general rule, those who require a visa for entry to the UK also require a separate visa for entry to Gibraltar.

Those nationals who feature in the chart above but hold valid UK Multiple entry visas which have been issued for 12 months or more, regardless of category, are eligible to enter Gibraltar (at the ultimate discretion of the Immigration Authorities) without the need for an additional visa. This exemption also applies to persons who hold Indefinite leave to Remain in the UK and to persons who hold UK Certificates of Entitlement to the right of Abode (and have not been absent from the UK for more than 2 years).
