Hey all,

After much deliberation, I have finally worked out some sort of route during my proposed visit to China in Feb/Mar 2010. I have a few questions, no doubt fellow travellers can kindly answer.

1. I am a UK citizen - is there a requirement for me to obtain a visa for Hong Kong? I will be leaving Guangzhou and heading to Hong Kong where I will catch my return flight. I have had a look at the website, and states UK nationals do not require a visa. The only reason I ask is, are circumstances different as I am leaving China to get to Hong Kong?

2. What will be the best way to travel from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. I am not too fussed at mode of transport? Can anyone recommend the best course of action along with estimate prices?

Thats it for now. Thanks in advance.

Mohson

1 - You don't need a visa for HK. You get a 180 day (I think) stamp on entry.

Residents of most countries can enter Hong Kong without applying for a visa in advance and are allowed to stay for 90 days. A visa will be issued on arrival. All the visa-free countries are listed below. Here you can find a list of visa-free countries: http://www.chinahighlights.com/hongkong/visa.htm

I travel on a UK passport and don't need a visa for HK. Been there many times. You can stay for up to 180 days I think without a visa.

From Gungzhou you can take a bus directly to Hong Kong. Alternatively, take a bus to Shekou in Shenzhen and then take the ferry from there to HK. Its kind of fun to do it that way.

Have fun.

In terms of speed/price and confort I would recommend taking a train to the border (in shenzhen) then walking across the border. Then in HK take the metro to where you want.

I wrote about it in the guangzhou guide.

You can also take the train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong, we did this the other way around it was very fast and it arrives into the Kowloon side of Hong Kong - I think the trains leave every hour.
