Jase007 has indicated that this thread is about Germany

Heading to Oktoberfest next week for 4 nights (24th to 28th).
Anyone suggest anything that we should make sure we do (either before or after a few steins).

Anyone willing to pit their drinking skills up against us are more than welcome to try

Hey, Lucky you going to Oktoberfest.

I advise you get there early first of all as its always manic especially at the weekends and getting your way into the tents can be difficult. Also after the Steins start to flow and the "table dancing" starts beware of the slippy benches etc as I managed to creck my knee of everything a fair few times. Had a nice purple set of knees in the mornings.

The food is fantastic, think I tried the sausages and some big pork knuckle, has to be done and does well to soak up some of the booze which I would recommend.

And if your stomach can bear it, try out the shows.

The Oktoberfest, or as we call it the Oktoberfarce is just a rip off. It is nothing more than hundreds of lager louts all getting wasted beyond recovery for hours. The beer is just 99% lager, well more froth than lager and so expensive. There are a few dark beers but you've really got to search for them.
As a recommendation, do Antwerpen instead. 1000's of different beers on sale, better music, cheaper, no fighting (the fighting at the Oktoberfest made a football riot look like a few kittens playing) and they don't close until the last person has left of their own choice. I've done the Oktoberfest twice in the last 8 years, hoping that the 2nd one would be better, but it was the same rubbish for all of us. There were 20 in our party, so I'm not alone in what I say, we all thought it was a complete con.

Visit Salzburg, Dachau and the Residency.
