I'm travelling to Bangkok at the begininng of Oct, I have a friend meeting me in Cambodia around the 24th Nov for 2 weeks and before he arrives I need to visit as much as I can of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, as after 2 weeks we are then moving to Australia.
Can anyone offer any advice on the following:
- Is it easy to travel solo for the first 7 weeks
- Where are the best places to meet other travellers in those countries
- What things should I def do/see in those countries
- Any general travel advice
I am sure others will chime with good advice on travelling solo. I would go over to the Khao San Road area of BKK. There are so many others doing exactly what you are doing that you will be surprised. If you are just a bit outgoing, you will meet other females from the UK touring Thailand. Stay at one of the many GHs on KSR or close to it. There are almost certainly going to be other UK single females staying there. Eat at any of the many restaurants on KSR and you will bump into other single travellers. You will not be alone for long. Since your plans are flexible, I predict you will meet others and start travelling around Thailand with them within 2-3 days after arriving.
I have plenty of photos of Thailand, Cambodia & VN in my gallery. My blog covers from Nha Trang back to HCMC, Phnom Penh & Sihanoukville, then Pattaya. Send me a PM if you have questions.
Doing Indochina is quite easy by yourself - just use your common sense, and don't accept offers proposed to you on the street.
An excellent reference for Vietnam is this online guidebook:
