It didn't take me a year.

After a week spent on the shoreline of West Cork in Ireland I arrived back to my job and within one hour had ceremoniously resigned. Silly thing to do as I had no plans and no money... seven years later I'm a writer still without plans or money, but I wouldn't have changed it for anything.

I appreciate the replies, did anyone ever do anything radical though, like if you had a house completely sell up and move somewhere else be it to work or study or something?

Traveling is an investment for me, my entire life has changed... and I hope it gets better. Ultimately, I will leave my nomadic, but scholarly and cool lifestyle for an egotistical but not hypocritical career in the sacred realm of academia. I'd be a lecturer, but I doubt if I could survive two semesters without being a new country again.
