Of course there are a lot of scams in Thailand, but if you use your common sense like you would in Farangland, the chances of getting badly scammed are slashed by 95%. .

Exactly... actually its 98%.

We how some old foreigner buys sex for the price of big mac meal in his country. He brags about it and talks about how cheap people can be... And then you will another foreigner, of the same species, moans abouts being scammed by a prostitute, and curses the entire nation. So I guess once in a while the lowly prostitutes gets justice. You played with fire and you got burned. You thought it was just another stupid W. Apparently, it was clever bitch just giving you what you deserve.

You go to a red light district and complain about everyone being a whore.

Sounds Like Pattaya. Many complain it is a sleazy sex city and others go there because it is a sleazy sex city!

i found everyone i spoke to to be most polite and very friendly and helpful, even when money wasn't involved. we were befriended by some 'bargirls' but when we told them how we couldn't **** because we had girlfriends at home in England, they actually bought us some perfume to take back for them because we told them how we liked it (because you could smell it everywhere). they wouldnt accept any money for anything, even though we broke their umbrella when they took us places on their scooters. everyone, male of female just seems happy to help, its as though they all know each other when theyre trying to help you out, asking for directions etc.

we were very cautious with everything, made sure everything we bought or service we used was thoroughly clear about the price before we bought it and were absolutely fine, like people have said, just common sense and you will have a brilliant time over there.

The only real problem I have with Thailand is all the pick-pockets in Bangkok. There are lots of them and you are at risk in any crowd, on a bus, in a market, in a shop, etc. A woman working for the Tourist Police whom I spoke to had money stolen on a bus only a week before.

The only place where you might get violence is near the border with Malaysia as muslims there want a separate state. Over 1200 people have been killed, something they keep quiet about.

In the deep south, that's terrorism. Not scams. Nothing to do with this. Afterall not many tourists go to that region.

The topic is 'Big Trouble in Tourist Thailand'. Yes, scams were featured in the link I provided. But Thailand has more problems than scams. I have been to Songkhla and Hat Yai. Tourists would go there for the beach, waterfalls and Wat Hat Yai Nai if there were not the violence that has been part of the Muslim south for years now. I hope the Thai authorities can stop the extremists and tourists could then safely return to Songkhla province.
