Im getting married in May and we are looking to go to South America for 3 weeks. We wanted longer but work said no! So now we re stuck deciding where to go ! We are thinking about the Galagpos Island, Inca trail and Bolivia. But don’t know how exhausting all this would be and easy to travel around given the short time we have?
Where is best to fly into and are the other places we should look at instead?
Thank you so much for your help.
I wouldn't attempt all that, I'm afraid, in 3 weeks. Galapagos and Inca Trail will take just under a week each, leaving not much time for Bolivia. Plus getting from Quito to Lima to Cusco takes time, even if you fly, and flying's pretty expensive too.
My suggestion would be to pick either Ecuador (it's very much a miniature South America with a coastline, jungle and mountains) or Inca trail & bit of Bolivia. There's a lot of interesting things around Southern Peru anyway, so you could definately spend more time there. My suggestion- go to Ecuador now, it's compact so it will allow time for you to just enjoy yourselves without hectic/long transfers, and save Peru and Bolivia for a 1st anniversary trip!
Congrats on you upcoming marriage! Just thought I'd say I agree with Ofelia's comments. Ecuador will definatley give you a good feel for South America, plus you probably want to allow about 8 days if you're going to do the Galapagos by boat. I spent the first week of July over there and absolutely loved it! It is really such a unique place and I have never got that close to wildlife before anywhere on my travels.
