Hello fellow travelers! I'm going to Quebec in October for business, but would like to stay a few extra days to travel around on my own. Any suggestions of things to do there, places to check out, how many days one really needs to explore Quebec? Just an FYI that I do enjoy hiking / anything outdoors, so any suggestions in that direction would be much appreciated! Thanks for all of your help!
Will you have a car or will you be walking? If walking take a bus tour, explore the fort at the Plains of Abraham take a ferry over to Levis, explore the old city upper and lower,If you have a car a day exploring Ile D'Orleans,Montmorency Falls, the shrine at Ste Anne de Beaupre,or a drive north into the mountains to marvel at the fall foliage colors,or a drive to Tadoussac to see the whales.
Plenty of sites like this one on Google
PS when you say Quebec i assume you are referring to Quebec City which is in the province of Quebec.
To explore Quebec City itself would probably only take a couple days. It's not a big town, and most of the tourist sites are located within or just outside the walls of the old city. Obviously you can find things to do to that would stretch the fun out, but if you just wanted to do a quick hit-and-snap-a-photo tour of the city, two days would cover you.
Jambo101 covered most of the outdoorsy stuff nearby. If you like hiking, you'll find lots of options. Note that Quebec City is pretty far north, so be prepared for some cold weather, and do remember that as October wears on, there is always the possibility of snow. Dress and plan accordingly.
