hey,

First of all i have heard a few things recently about how albania is a good backpacker destination in europe and because it is not yet in the euro it is soo well priced. i was just wondering:

> What are the current prices in coastal destinations in albania? are they reasonable? can anyone give me some examples of what they paid for beer, food or accomodation recently?

> What is albania like for corruption and human rights now, i heard it was getting better?

> What is albania like for robbery, crime and people scamming tourists?

Thanks alot

Yes indeed, the corruption is getting better, as is the robbery, crime and scamming of tourists. In fact they're so good at it now...

sorry, couldn't resist it. Still bitter I guess.

Albania is a remarkably friendly country and quite cheap. Not as cheap as Croatia, Serbia or Bulgaria though. It's a great little country to travel round with excellent buses and a reasonable train service too. A cheap way to get there is to get a flight to Corfu and then the 40 minute ferry across to Saranda from Corfu Town. From there you can get a bus to the nearest railway station and onward.
Tirana is a nice city that's easy to do in a day or so, with a population of around 1/2 a million.
Albanians love to eat fresh killed meat and just that. They kill it in the garden and cook it within a few hours, mostly lamb, but it's not unusual to see granny necking a hen or two in the backyard in between milking the cow (honest !).
The beaches put Spain to shame generally. The sea is incredibly blue and equally clean.
As far as what zaksame says about the corruption in Albania (bit ripe coming from someone in Ireland eh, Hardly clean out there is it !).. Tell me a country where it doesn't go on and I'll show you a Pope that doesn't wear a funny looking hat !

LOL! cheers for responses. Surely albania will be cheaper than bulgaria because bulgaria is in the E.U and the euro is very strong atm. Are croatia and serbia in the E.U? thanks
>Any more answers to the first questions will be brilliant :D

Thanks

Oh dear, it appears I've offended someone's sensitivities... someone who didn't take the time to fill in his/her profile or country of origin!!!
Maybe they're from a 'Jokeless' country?

Could be that you, indeed, are.
What happened to you in Albania then, that you're still bitter about it?
I've had some rough times in Ireland, but don't go round insulting people on the issue.
