Help!

I'm seriously staring to panic about running out of time to get my work-travel visa for Australia. Yes I know I should have done it weeks ago and its my own fault.

I know I am online now, but I'm at work and can dip in and out of this when my boss is behind me, but can't really be sitting there with passport details etc applying for my visa at work. We've all been given warnings about it. I could get in some deep shit.

I haven't got a computer at home, so i'm going to go and do it at the library tommorow AM. However, I leave the UK on 5th January so will this be enough time to sort it out or will I have to postpone my travel dates?

Once you've applied online they say it doesn't take long to get a decision but what else do you have to do after that, and how long does it take?

There are so many other things to sort out, never mind bills, direct debits car insurance and stuff back home!

Can anyone help?

hiya no need to panic!!

I had the same worries as you. My visa came through within a week, so you'll be fine.

Once you've filled out the application, you can monitor the process on the website. They just send you an email, saying the visa has been granted, then when you arrive in Aus you have to goand get your passport stamped.

i'm going in less than 2 weeks so i've probably had the same worries as you; ask away????

Yep, no worries at all.... if all goes smoothly (which is 99% of the time unless you have a police record or something) it'll just take a few days.

By the way. You can also save it as you go along, so if the boss pops out for five minutes you can start it and continue where you left off at a later stage (from another computer even...).

Cheers,

sam

Like others have said do not worry, if applying on line it generally only takes a few days to come through, unless a peek time it can take a bit longer. I started to panic a bit after people on here were saying it is only taking a few days at the moment but mine took 2 weeks. But as long as you are applying this week do not worry you have plenty of time before you go!

Well done on making the decision to go! I am off on the 1st Dec and cannot wait now!

Sydney here I come!

Thanks everyone for this, i have just finished my application and I'm not so stressed anymore. Well not about the Visa, just the thousand and one other things left to sort out!

Its just that when I told my friend I hadn't applied yet she got me all scared was like "Oh my god! you've got to do that first of all, you might not have time" etc. But I think when she went she applied in writing which takes a lot longer.

I'm hoping it won't take too long. I haven't committed any War Crimes or anything . So I'm hoping it won't take too long. I'd be an asset to any country! LOL!

One thing less on my to do list!

For anyone who has applyed online, do thay ask your for proof of funds before they issue the visa? or do you have to prove it when you get to Aus?

For the proof of fund thing, all I know is that when you apply online they just ask if you have enough for your stay in australia and all you do is check yes or no. I dunno if they check when you get to australia, I'll find out on dec 1 when i go.

They granted it already- very quick! Do they know what they're letting themselves in for? LOL!

Apparantly you used to have to post all your details and proof of funds etc, which would take ages. That's why I thought it would take longer. Surely now they must ask for some proof when you get there, otherwise people would just lie?

I wasn't asked for any proof of funds when I applied either. As far as I'm aware all you need is a copy of your bank statement when you arrive.

I've heard from some people that you don't even need that. Can anybody clarify this??
