Travel Forums Asia Shopping for clothes: HK vs. Hanoi

I am not thinking about Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi and Prada...

Lets say Giordano, Esprit, and things that are Less expensive like Bosinni, or LOCAL BRANDS, that are as good and international brands. Does Hanoi have good but cheap clothing brands like they do in Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. Clothes in mainland China are sooo Chinese and base on what the guys in Vietnamese hotels wear, I thought for a former French Colony, Vietnam has no fashion sense.

Clothes in Laos, also had a very Laos character. In other words, If you are to shop for clothes, since THAILAND is not an option, which is a better deal, Hanoi or HK. I assume HK is expensive, but they got the GOODS... Saigon has a LOUSI VUITTON store, but I have never seen a mall in HANOI....

Both HK and Vietnam are well known for custom made clothes. In Vietnam, Hoi An is the town for excellent tailoring, but I'm sure that Hanoi also has it's share. The problem with off the rack in Asia is the size problem!

custom made- that is like tailoring jobs?

I was thinking more of winter clothes, or casual wear... the thing about these tailors they are trying to sell to Western travellers... They are not cheap to Southeast Asians. I could probably get a better deal in Manila, than suits in a provincial city like Ho ian because it was Noted as the place for suits. Once it gets in the lonely planets, the prices go up and its only for travellers from the 1st world, where labor is expensive.

I remember trying to get a suit in Thailand, it wasnt cheap *last year).
I bought a very nice suit in Bangkok, during the Currency Crisis, it was hell cheap, Unfortunately, I exchanged my money at the airport, which reduced my currency to 50 percent. It was hell oppressive.

I shop at HK in 2007 and it was cheaper than the stuff in the mainland *Bosinni and Giordano. well Macau has ESPRIT shops at discounted rates, its like a depot.

If you're looking for brand clothes, go to Hong Kong! You're talking about Esprit, there's an outlet store of Esprit in Hong Kong as well.
And as far as I know, there are still no real malls in Hanoi...

Hanoi is great for shopping for clothes, the only problem is (if you are a westerner), you wont fit in most of the stuff.
I`m not over weight but i had a problem finding clothes to fit me in Hanoi, which was disappointing, because there are some really nice clothes there . I found a pair of shorts that fitted me, they was on the bargain rack lol i got them cheaper though ha ha .
