I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a certain area that is better known for authentic thai massages than others? I will be arriving in Bangkok, travelling to Chiang Mai then down to the islands near Koh phangan..at first i thought perhaps Bangkok would be better but after speaking to a few people it would seem this is not the case as it can be more expensive?
Any advise would be much appreciated,
There is an organization called 'Seeing Hands'. I started using them in Phnom Penh. Blind people taught to give 'massa'. They also have a branch in BKK & Pattaya. Worth finding IMO. They really know what they are doing.
Walk into any massage parlor in Thailand and you can tell if the massage is authentic or 'sexy' by the way the ladies dress. Your choice!
With happy end?
Now Michael. I had many happy endings in Phnom Penh and Pattaya, but I don't think this inquiry is about that. I got a chuckle out of it however!
The best place I found was The Sweety Guest House in Ratchademnoen Klang, Bangkok. That's the main road (about ten lanes across) just around the corner from Khao San Road and on the same side, near the 7-11. They are very cheap. Not open every day.
I was in Rawai Muay Thai camp in Phuket (Rawai Beach) and I have there the best massages that I had in all my life.
Try to go to tradicional thai massage salooms. In Bangkok you can try in the tradicional massage academy. It is located at the Royal Palace. Take a tour in the palace and have a massage.

'with a happy ending' was not what I had in mind haha! so thanks for the other posts with some information. I will definitely check these out! The royal palace tour/massage sounds good!
I found plenty of authentic Thai massage places in Chiang Mai...although after my first (and last) I opted for the Swedish type massage...there are plenty small shops that do them for around 200baht. Really worth it for an all over massage! No extras!!! Not that I wanted any mind you...!!!
