Hi i'm Gemma from UK and i'm 21, have finished 5 years of hard apprentiship and want to finally start making plans to travel around North America!!!
I've read and heard you can only stay in USA for 90 days without having to apply for a visa??? But does anyone know if it's awquard to get aournd that so maybe i could stay longer?
Has anyone out there travelled north america fo 3 months (ish) because i really dont know where to start with the planning and need a rough idea how much i would need.
All help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

You could spend a lifetime travelling around the USA and Canada and never see it all,its big, moving the red dot in this link will give you a comparitive map
http://goeurope.about.com/od/europeanmaps/l/bl-country-size-comparison-map.htm
However 3 months should be enough time to see a lot of N.America, just drive around trying to stay off the interstate highways as you will see very little of cultural value by driving them.
Where is the car coming from?Friend, relative? the reason i ask is you have to be 25 to rent a car over here and even if renting a car is not a problem the cost of using it for 3 months and putting 20,000 miles on it could run into some serious money.

Gemma,
I have helped 4 different TP members buy cars/vans here in Vegas. I suggest you buy a van. Take a look at the Dodge Grand Caravan or Ford Windstar. Many are available for under $2K. You would spend more than that for a 3 month rental. Most companies do not like renting to those under 25 yrs old. They add a surcharge to your daily rental fees. I have been to 49 of our states, so have an idea what you plan on doing.
Send me a PM if you want any help making your dream come true.

I've been to the states a few times before and always rented a car (with family obviously), on their policies the driver must be 21..by the time i go i'll be 23 so hopefully that wont be too much of a problem.
I'm right at the beginning of planning routes etc, just what i'm seeing from internet or in books what i'll want to stop off and see...but i'm thinking starting west side driving down CA.
So can anyone help me with the visa situation so i could maybe stay for 4-6 months?
