Im desperate to go jungle trekking in Thailand and would be grateful of some advice from people who have experienced it before.
Is the usual hotspot of in and around Chang Mai the best part of the country to do this?
Or would you reccommend any where else like khong chiam on the east border?
Im looking for something less touristy.
Thanks in advance

If you are looking for something less touristic, Khong Chiam is the place. Try the Pha Taem National Park. North of the park is Pa Dong Natham ...nice place to do trekking, biking, etc with water falls and surise to appreciate. The place is some 80km from Ubon Ratchathani. Quite laid back, and along the Mun River, there are numerous guesthouses.
Many Thanks for the reccommenation.
What is the travel like from Bangkok to Khong Chiam? how long and are there direct trains?
The roads are good all the way from BKK to Ubon Ratchathani. You have an option:
1. Bus: there are both air-conditioned and ordinary buses from the Northeastern Bus Terminal (Talat Mo Chit)
2. Train:ordinary, rapid, and express trains from Bangkok. All trains stop at Si Saket ( gateway to the contraversial Preah Vihear Temple).
3. Plane, including Air Asia flies to Ubon.
From Ubon, you can take bus to Pilbun. The bus terminal to Kong Chiam is within walking distance. The bus will stop at Kong Chiam so-called terminal, and right within walking distance you will see guest houses.Kong Chiam is laid back place.
