Has anyone celebrated a white xmas in Switzerland? We have two young children and want them to experience it. Sleigh rides, Santa, etc. We were originally going to go to Ronaneimi in Finland but, I have read mixed reviews mainly it being very expensive and that it can be boring. We thought it might be easier to do Switzerland as we want to go to Paris and Rome as well. Anyone with ideas on celebrating new year's in Rome (don't forget with young children) would be very much appreciated.

Hey Jewel70,

Christmas in that part of Europe is absolutely spactacular! You will not be disapointed. Everything is decorated so beautifully, with boughs festooned everywhere and gorgeous Christmas trees. And yes there will be snow. You're kids and you will love it! Just a ferry ride over Lake Constance is Germany. Every city has a Christmas Market, usually in the centre, which are wonderful to explore. For the adults, there is a drink called gluevein (not sure if I spelled that right, but it's pronouced in the way I spelled it), which is basically a hot malt wine- very good on a cold winter day- and it comes in a cup you get to keep as a souvenier. Sipping on that, you will keep warm as you peruse the market. The children will love the candy and sundry other things. Right across the lake is Friedrichshafen and it has one. Christmas in Europe is just magical. Enjoy!

Thanks for that. Our travel agent suggested going to Zermatt for xmas??? Have you been there or heard anything about it?

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Zermatt. That's in Switzerland, I assume?

Sorry that I can't be of any further help

Have a great trip.
