Alcohol in India?

Travel Forums Asia Alcohol in India?

WeeJoe has indicated that this thread is about India

A key part of my memorable nights anywhere seems to involve going 'on the session' but then ive never travelled in Asia before. I'm sure pubs are readily available in most places in South East Asia but what about India? Is drinking frowned upon? Is it popular? Will we be out of line if we go out and get drunk in India? Am I worrying about this too much?

Damn dawg .. do u have a misconception about India ... ! I live in Bombay, India ... you don't need to worry ... in all the major cities in India, you'll find plenty of places to go out drinking ... you'll find alcohol everywhere you go !!! Hell, come down to Bombay & I'll take you out for a drink myself (specially if you have some pretty gals accompanying you !!! ;)) ... in short, don't worry bout it, you'll be laughin at this question once you visit !!! Cheers

Happy days pal!! Thats all i need to know. We're not alco's or anything but i dont like going more than a few days without. It probably sounds stupid but we were genuinely worrying. I'm happier now.

You will certainly have many chances to try the local ales in India.

This site has some great tips for a hangover.
Kingfisher is not too bad a beer either.

Nice one. I had a giggle at that hangover page Kurwah....'Don't gulp it down'!

Anyway, the good news is that ive realised that i was being an absolute eejit to doubt that such a wonderful culture and people would have an aversion to alcohol. Aaah, the bounty's of the world are endless.

Slainte.

What about weed? i know it's illegal and all but how illegal is it and how much are penalties enforced? i'm from australia where everyone has smoked weed and half the population smoke regularly, it's illegal technically - but only if u get caught - which the police put no effort into, we walk happily stoned around the streets and no one thinks anything of it - am i going to have to curb my smoking habits in india?

Lol! I'm staying tuned to this thread.

I can hear the Gateway theorists sharpening their knives.

By the way, what about smack?!!
