Someone reported one of my replys on the forum as spam... I have had a notice telling me I cant reply to any more posts because of this... one of the people who was helping me with information about egypt just sent me a quite a long post, which was very imformative, and I cant even thank him.
It seems I have no redress from this accusation, and dont even know which post has been refered to as spam.
I have never sent spam to anyone in my life, and never will I get enough of it through my groups and E.mail to feel like most people its an invasion of privacy and totaly wrong. yet when I am accused of being a spammer, I cant ask who, or why ... or query why this accusation was made,
In any justice system in the world the accused at least has access to the courts to refute any accusation brought against them, yet here I have no recourse.. and no way of making my disgust and annoyance known. I would also like to know what happens to the person who reported my post as spam if its simply a nasty trick... or some person who has a perveese reason for accusing others without any sort of backup or reason. Do they lose posting privaliges for frivaliouse misuse of the medium..... because if not I would like to know why not. If I am going to be punished for something I know I have not done, then those who post frivaliouse accusations should also realise they have something to lose.:(

Hi Shez,

Apologies for this. The spam reports are sent to us administrators and we can remove the spam flag if it was nothing. I've been away for about a week though, so haven't had a chance to go through them. Most of the time it is spam unfortunately - you know, the nigerian type with some uncle who was a general and left lots of money, etc.. and the system works very well to discourage that kind of member.

I just reviewed yours and cleared the flag. Nothing wrong there. It's possible that the other user accidentally clicked the 'report as spam' button. There have been several occassions like that. I doubt they were being malicious. If we noticed someone reporting a lot of messages as spam, we would deal with them appropriately. And when there is a doubt in our mind about why a message has been reported, we contact the person who made the report.

Apologies again for the inconvenience.

Thank you for the reply Peter... I must admit I was very aggreved...I hope it was someone just pushing the wrong button, that is acceptable and understandable, I have hit a few wrong buttons in my time to.

thank you for clearing my posts.

Yeah, I need to make it a little less easy to report the spam. At the moment, there's no confirmation screen, so people click on it wondering what it will do and they have no chance of winding it back. We made that feature at a point when there was a serious spammer going around that needed a quick stop. Probably time for a revisit to avoid this kind of stuff happening.

Speaking of spam and stuff, what does the "Rate It" button do?

I mean, I know that it rates a post from 0 - 10, but what happens after that?

Nothing at the moment. It's kind of in a trial period to see whether enough people would use it. In the future (not too distant), a 0 rating will notify the moderators/admin of a dodgy post.

Users will also be given a ranking which is partially calculated on these ratings + how many posts they've made + featured pics, etc.. That rating will be able to be used for increasing photo limits and a few other such privileges. For now though, it is just gathering the data :)

Ok, I've fixed up the spam reporting, so it now goes through a confirmation stage. I think that will be enough to stop the accidental ones ;)
