It's in the message center actually.. When you get a message sent to you, there's a 'Report as Spam' option on the left.

Mike,

You'll see it in private messages you received. Don't have any private message? Send yourself one. :)

Cheers,
Hien

Is it possible if we can see if someone has been reported as spam, for example I received a mail today which is spam and reported it but I presume the same one has been sent to many people so its possible that we're all reporting the same thing...

Also I received a mail asking me to check somebody living in an address in Dublin and asking this person to contact another.... to me it sounds dodgey but how do I tell if its someone genuinely looking for help, i don't want to report it as spam if its not,....

Thanks for your help guys.....

Is there a way you can add a report as spam for a thread as well (maybe even auto removes it until approved/otherwise by yourselves,. although that's trickier as open to abuse - maybe only people over a certain # of posts, i.e. regulars, could report spam??)??

The guy here:

www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=7204#Post1

Has sent 3 or 4 identical spam posts, but until a mod comes along, he gets free publicity

Hi Nikki, that one hadn't been reported yet actually! He'd only sent two messages, so I think you nipped it in the bud :) Basically, as soon as you report it, the sender isn't able to send any more messages AND all messages that have been sent get a (spam?) prefix in the subject, so you know that someone has reported it. Once we have confirmed that the messages are spam, the subject can't be clicked on any more.

Rich, something like that would be a nice system actually - maybe our respected members could have that power .. hmm ... it would really give those spammers a hard time!!

Hi Peter, Maybe Shez was confused with this guy. I received the following and was advised it was reported as spam:

"Hello

i'm peter from west africa ghana accra ItÂ’s always hard to know what to say, how to start talking with someone you have never met out there in cyberspace.

So many of the things you mentioned in your profile, we have in common. ItÂ’s hard to know very much about anyone in a paragraph or two, but sometimes what is there is enough to spark the right interest. You have definitely sparked my interest. It was through your words, that I felt compelled to write to you.

You sound like a fascinating person. Someone that I would really like to know more of. I would like to know more of the things you love in life and things you donÂ’t like in life. We may become good friends, only pen pals, maybe romance or maybe none of the above.. who knows for sure? But it would be nice to have the opportunity to find out.

you can please write to my private Email box. -email address removed-

I hope you feel the same way and I hope to hear back from you soon. Take good care.

Warm regards"

[ Edit: email removed ]

Yeah, that one was reported yesterday - he sent the same message 40+ times. I think that alone classifies it as spam. These happen occassionaly. My feeling is that their usual intent is to get an invitation that they can use in a visa application. Naturally, this is something you should NEVER do for someone you don't know, as you are taking on a huge responsibility!! There was another one flagged the same day from 'someone else' in Accra actually asking for an invitation.

From memory, in Shez's case, it was actually a reply to a message that the person flagged - and nothing remotely 'spammy' about it either.

Ok Rich, It's done :) Respected Members (currently 22 of them) and Travel Gurus (9 of them) can now flag any entry as spam. This will immediately remove it from view for any general visitor. The mods can then choose to either delete the entry or remove the spam flag on it.

That ought to teach 'em!! I don't imagine much spam lasting longer than an hour this way.

Cheers, Peter
