Quoting Peter

Ok Rich, It's done :) Respected Members (currently 22 of them) and Travel Gurus (9 of them) can now flag any entry as spam. This will immediately remove it from view for any general visitor. The mods can then choose to either delete the entry or remove the spam flag on it.

Peter, I coudn't find the flag as spam thingy. Am I supposed to see it? If no, how do I flag spams in forums which I'm not a moderator?

Fair point Hien, I've made it available to Moderators as well now.

Cheers, Peter

When you say spam, are you referring to one-off posters that are promoting their own companies, etc?

I've seen a few of these lately - nothing more than advertisements - so as a Guru I can report as spam and they'll disappear?

Happy New Year by the way....

Happy new year to you too :)

Yeah, that's right - basically anything breaking the forum rules, although people posting email addresses aren't such a big deal.

Peter, will there be a bad rating for the user after a post is flagged as spam and deleted by a moderator?

Happy new year,

Not at the moment. I have considered that it might be worth giving a negative rating for deleted posts. Perhaps later :)

Mind you, for the users posting this kind of stuff, they would never post enough to get a decent rating anyway!

pcobrian - thanks for bringing that up! I got that message twice... terribly vague and mildly disturbing. Glad to know he's been caught!

Thanks to all of you who keep this place so good and safe!

Someone reported one of my posts on the forum as spam
I now have a notice telling me I cant reply to any more posts because of this. One of the people who was helping me with information for my university studies has sent me a very helpful reply, and I cant even thank him.
I don't believe what I have posted is spam as all I am asking is for some feedback to help with a project for uni. There is nothing in the forum rules that states this is disallowed. I'm hoping that someone has simply hit the wrong button.
How can I resolve the situation?

Hi Biz,

You weren't flagged for a post on the forum - you were reported for a message in the private message center. Looking at the report, I can understand why too. Considering you had already posted the same questions in the forum, it is really highly unnecessary to contact people directly. People do like their privacy you know, and it is best not to send private messages unless it's something that is of some personal importance (which in this case it wasn't).

Anyway, I've cleared your mails of the spam flag. Please take it as a warning though, as a lot of people consider such messages as spam.

I do apologise I never intended to offend anyone or to invade their privacy. They had replied to my previous post and seemed willing to help at the time so I thought they wouldn't mind. Sorry to who ever it was.
