Hello everyone

I will be going to Beijing for 10 days during early January of next year. I've been to Beijing before, and I have visited all of the major traveling spots there. However, this time I want to travel throughout China and visit places like Guilin or the tombs in Xi'An, maybe even Shanghai. The thing is, I'm not sure if I can do all that if I'm only going to be there for 10 days. Perhaps I can take the train overnight and reach my destinations the next morning in order to save time.

I was wondering if any of you can give me some advice on where I should visit and what are the best/fastest/cheapest ways to get there. What are some "must-see" places in China?

Thanks

Thank you so much aksa!

Are youth hostels safe? If I stay at a decently priced hotel, how much do you think that would cost per night?
Also, how much would it cost to fly from Guilin to Shanghai? And then from Shanghai to Beijing?
