What sort of shoes should i be looking for to backpack round central europe in winter? mainly UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia and Czech Republic

i was thinking of something akin to hiking boots...but advice would be well appreciated :D

Hiking boots that are a size too large in combination with thick wool socks are indeed the way to go. This is especially practical if you already have hiking boots.

But consider the following alternatives too:

If you are specifically looking to do winter sports and intend to spend a lot of time in the snow you might want to get snowboots or other shoes suitable to skiing, snowboarding, etc. The main feature of shoes suitable to snow is that they are completely waterproof up to the ankles and have really warm lining plus insulated soles.

Or if you are a fashionable girl and travel mainly in the cities you might want to go for some chic ankle boots.

You can easily pick up shoes in Europe, if you tell us the country and when you plan on being there we can tell you where to find the bargains.
